Bitcoin Set to Break Record as U.S. Election Approaches: Analysts Weigh In
With the U.S. presidential election on the horizon, Bitcoin is drawing closer to an all-time high (ATH), currently showing a bullish trend and nearing the $68,000 mark. Analysts have been closely watching the interaction between Bitcoin's price movements and U.S. election cycles, with a prominent projection by analyst Dan Gambardello linking the two phenomena.
Gambardello’s analysis is grounded in historical data which suggests that these cycles indeed influence Bitcoin's market performance, often leading to significant price surges. For example, in the election year of 2012, Bitcoin's price increased by 194% in just 115 days following the election. Similarly, a 79% rise was observed over 118 days in 2016, while in 2020, a 44% surge occurred over a much shorter period of 41 days.
These historical patterns have prompted Gambardello to anticipate a parallel trend leading up to and following the anticipated election date of November 5. To further support his analysis, Gambardello consulted OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which projected that if Bitcoin is 8% below its ATH by this upcoming date, it could surpass its previous high within a span of 5 to 12 days.
The analysis also introduced a fractal pattern as a predictor for Bitcoin’s price behaviour in the coming weeks. According to this pattern, Bitcoin is expected to initially rise to $72,000, experience a retracement to $69,000, and subsequently rally to $78,000. This predicted movement aligns with the expected election-induced momentum in Bitcoin’s price.
In his projections, Gambardello also considers the volatility indicators, such as the stochastic RSI, which suggest potential downward movements before a subsequent rally past the ATH. Such a dip might form a “higher low,” which is often regarded as a catalyst for reaching new highs in price.
Geoff Kendrick from Standard Chartered Bank has made an even bolder prediction regarding Bitcoin's future price. Kendrick speculated that Bitcoin could reach an impressive $125,000 by the end of the year, contingent on a victory by Donald Trump in the U.S. election. He ties Bitcoin's potential trajectory to trading patterns associated with Trump’s political campaign, noting the influence of daily BTC volatility and certain critical price thresholds. Additionally, Kendrick anticipates Bitcoin reaching around $73,000 by the day of the election.
As these analyses suggest, both the historical context and speculative projections position Bitcoin's price performance as closely intertwined with U.S. election cycles. As the election draws near, market participants will be observing whether these patterns will indeed manifest once again.
