A groundbreaking AI-powered platform named Wscripted has been launched, promising to revolutionise how the entertainment industry manages script submissions and reviews. The platform, founded by Ellie Jamen, is designed as a subscription-based service that enables production companies, talent agencies, studios, and sales agents to efficiently review project submissions and discover new material from emerging writers. The initiative particularly aims to boost access for female and underrepresented writers within the industry.

Wscripted facilitates the generation of AI coverage for scripts and books within minutes, streamlining the evaluation process for busy industry professionals. Writers, screenwriters, and filmmakers are offered the opportunity to have their work featured on the platform. Jamen notes that approximately 2,000 female and non-binary writers have already been invited to showcase their scripts, further highlighting the platform's commitment to diversity.

The startup received pre-seed funding from Techstars Atlanta Powered by J.P. Morgan and was previously part of Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs’s accelerator programme, with a focus on generative AI. An early version of Wscripted was trialled by Universal Pictures, providing a real-world application and testing ground for its capabilities.

“Wscripted+ is a tool that offers producers, agents, and sales professions the means to handle their submission piles more efficiently,” said Jamen. “It enables industry professionals to discover scripts and books from beyond their immediate networks, thereby promoting diverse work, particularly from women and underrepresented writers.”

For writers, particularly those who find themselves sidelined due to industry biases, Wscripted provides a familiar submission format that aligns with the working methods of agents, producers, and funders. As Jamen explained, the industry often struggles to spare time to uncover new projects or stories, leading to a bias where submissions from women and underrepresented writers are often overlooked.

Subscription pricing begins at $10 per month for individual writers and starts at $50 for producers, with pricing tiers that increase based on company size and platform usage. This scalable pricing model promises accessibility and affordability for a diverse array of users.

In a collaborative effort with the Cannes Film Market this year, Wscripted launched an AI-powered diversity analysis feature which was tested by a group of international producers and is now available on Wscripted+. The platform also aims to introduce forthcoming features such as "tailored creative curation" and "an ethical narrative analysis."

Wscripted has gained recognition particularly for its "Cannes Screenplay List," an initiative that promotes scripts by women and non-binary writers during the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The campaign sees collaboration with streaming platform MUBI and involves curation by a female-led jury, with previous members including the acclaimed actress Vanessa Kirby.

In summary, Wscripted offers a promising venture to alter how the industry views content submission, making substantial strides towards inclusivity by ensuring diverse voices can be heard and acknowledged in a competitive landscape.
