Portland Electropunk Band Die Robot Releases Spooky Double Feature EP
Portland's vibrant music scene has been electrified once again with the latest release from acclaimed electro/punk band Die Robot. The band has unveiled their new EP, "Vampire vs. Zombie", a thematic double feature that encapsulates the haunting essence of the Halloween season. This marks their second release of 2024, following the August debut of their single "Straitjacket".
The EP, revealed to the public on October 30th, dovetails with the eerie and atmospheric mood of Halloween with its conceptual exploration of iconic horror themes — vampires and zombies. Die Robot, known for their innovative sound, has embedded distinct elements into each track on the EP. "Vampire" showcases the band's ability to blend throbbing basslines with spooky piano and electronic accompaniments, all underscored by Barbie Saint's commanding bass and Vince Christian's gritty, yet harmonious vocal delivery. In contrast, "Zombie" offers a more robust, rock-inspired performance, complemented by distorted samples from the film "The Abyss", giving it an additional edge and depth.
Renowned music producer and regular collaborator of Die Robot, John Case, mastered both tracks at RMLfx Studios, ensuring each song's unique attributes are effectively brought to the forefront. In addition to the music itself, the band has ventured into new creative territory with the music video for "Zombie". This project integrates AI animation, marking a technological and artistic first for Christian and Saint.
