Singaporean Marketers Set to Navigate Data, AI, and Omnichannel Challenges by 2025

The marketing landscape in Singapore is poised for significant changes by 2025, with an emphasis on data ambitions, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and omnichannel marketing. These insights emerge from the Yahoo Singapore Digital Marketers Pulse study conducted in collaboration with Milieu Insight, capturing the perspectives of over 180 marketing and advertising professionals in Singapore.

Budgetary Expectations and Future Explorations

The study revealed that Singaporean marketers remain optimistic about the future, with 41% expecting an increase in marketing budgets in the next year, while 39% anticipate stable spending. With these expectations, nearly half of the marketers express intentions to explore new avenues, encompassing emerging channels and technological advancements. This sentiment is echoed by John McNerney, managing director AUSEA at Yahoo DSP, who emphasises the importance of investing in omnichannel campaigns that effortlessly connect with consumers across various touchpoints.

Data Utilisation and Challenges

Despite a strong inclination toward data-driven marketing, as 85% of marketing professionals advocate for it, there exists a notable disconnect between the desire for data usage and actual practices. Only 21% of marketers fully leverage online first-party customer data, and a scant 11% maximise offline customer data usage. Many marketers admit to only partially utilising these resources, highlighting a gap in data application across omnichannel efforts.

AI and Machine Learning: A Growing Focus

With AI and machine learning gaining momentum, 75% of marketers are keen to implement these solutions. They prioritise predictive analysis and campaign optimisation, both identified by 53% of marketers as key areas of focus. Kenneth Koh, head of commercial sales, Southeast Asia at Yahoo DSP, underscores the urgent need for performance-driven and cost-effective strategies amid a hyperconnected world.

Omnichannel Marketing Adoption

In terms of media planning and buying, omnichannel integration remains crucial, with 42% of marketers planning its adoption and mobile emerging as a preferred channel for 39%. The availability of cross-channel capabilities is a significant consideration for 46% of marketers when choosing ad platforms.

Appreciation for Open Web Platforms

The study notes a shift in spending towards open web platforms, as evidenced by 34% of advertisers increasing their investment in these platforms compared to 27% in walled gardens. Notably, a considerable 20% of marketers did not allocate any budget to walled gardens, while 12% steered clear of open web platforms.

Performance Marketing Takes Centre Stage

Performance marketing is clearly a priority, with 61% of marketers focusing on it over brand-building. In the selection of ad platforms, cost-effectiveness, transparency, and the ability to report and measure performance are paramount for marketers. Despite these priorities, achieving performance efficiency continues to be a pressing challenge for 76% of marketers, who are grappling with fragmented industry conditions and difficulties in tracking cross-channel performance and measuring ROI.

Resource Limitations

A significant portion of marketers cite limitations in resources as a barrier to effectively measuring ROI, with shortages in tools and solutions (38%), expertise (34%), and time (29%). Dan Richardson, director of data and Insights at AUSEA, Yahoo DSP, highlights the need for marketers to harness like-minded technology and partnerships to activate first-party data effectively.

As the marketing industry in Singapore strives to adapt to these evolving challenges, the findings from the Yahoo Singapore Digital Marketers Pulse study set the stage for strategic advancements in AI, data use, and omnichannel initiatives, critical for navigating the complex landscape of 2025.
